Name of Artist: Laura Letinsky
Dates of Artist’s Life: She was born in 1962 and is still alive.
2. Style: Laura is a still life photographer who takes photos of the not so glamorous things in a house, but she makes them beautiful. This includes partially eaten food, messy plates, and tables. Ect. She explores the tension between the reality of everyday events and perfect images of domesticity in the media. Her photos include soft light, and subtle tonal transitions. She prefers shooting on film and mostly uses a large format Kardan camera.
3. Philosophy: Laura started out taking pictures of couples in homes, her art focused on love and relationships. She quickly shifted into still life photography which is what shes famous for today. She uses raw images of things such as barely eaten food, dirty dishes and table clothes . She loves this genre because food is considered femine, because of its association of home and domesticity. Her photographs show the not so perfect side of life, and really capture the behind the scenes.
4. Influences: This photographer really influenced my by showing that there can be meaning behind photos. I love that she shows the not so glamorous sides of things, where as most artists only show th perfect picture. Laura’s pictures include messy home life, and you don't usually see that. I aspire to have that much meaning behind my photos and show not so beautiful things, but in a beautiful way. Many of my pictures are modeled by her, and I hope to continue to grow as a photographer with Laura as my favorite author that I look up to.

Artist statement: I love how simple and clean looking this picture is. I got my inspiration from Laura Letinsky. I love the contrast between the dirty objects and the clean background. I think the contrast of the differnt colored wall and floor created a fun to look at picture. I love the story this picture tells.

I think I did a good job of recreating the image. Its not the exact same, but has the same color scheme and similar objects. My picture is darker while hers is lighter.
